In 2004, the Norwalk Association of Silvermine Homeowners (NASH) initiated the first of the Silvermine Historic House Tours in order to fund the first of a proposed series of Silvermine national historic districts.  From the first,  NASH invited the Silvermine Community Association (SCA) to join the house tour committees and the SCA has graciously continued that support through the years. The Norwalk Preservation Trust also lent their support, without which, NASH could not have offered a portion of the ticket as a charitable donation.

These house tours have now become a bi-annual event that not only showcases the wonderful historic houses that line the old roads of Silvermine but contributes to our sense of place, our stewardship of history, and the connectedness of our community.

We are ever grateful to the Silvermine homeowners who so generously open their homes to the public, the many volunteers who organize, plan and present each house on the tour, and the rest of you who come to support and enjoy the day.

The Perry Avenue bridge over the Silvermine River was our first listing on the national register and led to preservation of that structure. The first national historic district in Silvermine, Silvermine Center NHD, was listed in July of 2009 and included seventy-five houses in Norwalk, New Canaan and Wilton. It required five years from research to hiring our consultants to eligibility for study and nomination to final federal okay. Two other efforts are presently underway.

Our next historic house tour will be in September of 2010.  We look forward to seeing you on that special day in Silvermine.
